Celebrity Status and Book Promo

When you get invited to do a “walk on” cameo in “As Entrepreneur’s Churn” on Kirsten Osolind’s Re:invention Blog, you have most certainly hit the bigtime. I am honored and in full preparation mode for my quick (virtual) trip to Chicago for Friday’s episode. I hope I can come up with something intelligent to say to help Melody make decisions about her new venture. Then again, how could I ever compare to last Friday’s guest, Dr. Christian Trevor, well known South Beach cosmetic surgeon?

On another front, Lisa Johnson, my good friend, colleague and fellow Don’t Think Pink co-author, was interviewed on the Small Business Advocate radio show a few days ago. Much of their discussion was about the great opportunity in marketing to women and why it is so important to get inside a woman’s mind if you are trying to reach her. Check it out (when you click on the audio link to her interview, move the audio player to about mid-point and you should be close to landing on her interview). Lisa did a great job.

One more thing, since we are on the topic of books about marketing to women. I finally read fellow blogger Yvonne DiVita’s Dickless Marketing: Smart Marketing to Women Online and will certainly be adding it to my recommended background reading list. I loved the chapter entitled, “Making Friends with the F-Word,” which gives some great insight on the key elements of female friendly web sites. Wonderbranding’s own, Michele Miller, author of Natural Advantages of Women, is quoted in this chapter as well.

Lots of great books out there on the topic of marketing to women. What a difference 5 years makes.

Andrea, thank you for the plug for Dickless Marketing. I agree, the passage of time is seeing the marketing to women issue rise slowly to the surface. But, you and I know we sitll have some distance to cover. Your new posts on women in sports is a must read for me, as I know so little about sports, but the young girls (Gen X and Gen Ys and younger) are all over sports, to their credit. I think we have an opportunity here to raise the marketing to women consciousness higher, faster, by working together…as we are, blogging and supporting women who have something to say. Kudos to Lisa for her interview. Let’s keep the momentum moving!
